Fearless! is a Young Adult novel that centers on 13-year-old Noah Martin and his struggle to find his place in the world. With few self-expectations, a resentment of classmates with “perfect” lives,
and a cocky attitude that earns him few friends,
Noah has been biding his time until track season.
He is sure that he can dominate
in sprints and the long jump.
On the first day of practice, Noah steps into
a world he never expected.
What happens when he begins to re-think
some of his closely-held “truths” and discovers that
people who have his back might wear unlikely disguises?

Set between the first day of practice through the first track meet, Fearless! takes you inside the classrooms, halls, locker room, and track of a drama-filled middle school for a look inside the world’s oldest sport.

Fearless!
Finding Your Place on the Field

During the eighteen years that I taught French and Spanish, I had a passion for coaching during all four sports seasons. Fast-pitch softball, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, and track. Whatever season it was, that was my favorite sport. When spring came, I loved to focus on long jump! There is something about coaching student athletes to reach top speed over a short distance before hurling themselves through space over a pit of sand that I found addictive. My athletes’ strength, courage, and hard work inspired me to write the young adult novel, “Fearless! and to dedicate it to every one of them.
